Meet Elly!  She is a happy courageous little girl of 7 years old wearing her new favorite bracelet!

Her Great grandmother, Helen, was to receive this as a gift to show her how special she is.   Unfortunately Helen did not receive her gift in time.  The bracelet was passed on  to Elly.  Elly was the apple of her great grandma Helen’s eye and in fact she was there when Helen passed away.

Elly is a special little girl.  Very early in her life she was diagnosed with severe Hurlers Disease which is a degenerative disease that attacks the body’s enzymes.  She has been through many experimental surgeries than we care to count.  The mortality rate has been about 100% by age 15 to date but Elly seems to be the exception.  Her experimental surgery was successful and Elly is expected to recover to a full life.  She still faces many more surgeries to correct the damage that has been done by the disease.  She is a very courageous girl and takes things as they come.

Elly opened her Great Grandma Helen’s bracelet as a Christmas gift.  Her parents sat down with her and explained the bracelet. She loves it and wants to add the friendship key. This is one of those gifts that will be treasured for the rest of her life. Ellie’s story and progress can be found on caring bridge organization website then visit Elly.
