Inspiration found on the faces of women
I would like to introduce Joy Welsh Pfister. I had the great opportunity of meeting her in Charlotte, NC at a workshop for Carolina International Pageant workshop.
She is a fantastic woman with a unique gift to bring out the inner beauty of women and girls. Read on to learn more about this extraordinary woman among us!
Tell me a little bit about yourself :
I am a mother of 2 beautiful kids, Riley 11 and Madison 7. I have been married for 8 years, to a wonderful and very patient man! He has supported all of my dreams and continues to encourage me! I have been involved with the beauty industry in one way or any other since I have been about 4 years old. My mother was and still is a licensed beautician. I always played with makeup and color and hair styles. I am a SAG actress and have been featured in several commercials and films and print ads from the time I was 12. After I got married I started competing in fitness and beauty pageants and have won my share of titles! In 2008, I became a director to mentor other women, and in 2010 started Faces by Joy to share my love of enhancing ones beauty for everyone!
Who inspires you?
My family inspires me always!
When do you feel most at peace with yourself?
I feel most at peace on a Sunday afternoon, baking brownies with my daughter and enjoying the 100th viewing of my favorite movie Practical Magic!
What lead you to your unique path of revealing the inner beauty of women?
At pageant nationals the first year I directed a few years ago, one of my teens could not afford a hair and makeup artist. Being I became a director to mentor and help the girls(Teen, Miss and Mrs) topped with the fact that I had a lifetime of working with hair/makeup artists, I figured I could help her out! After seeing the photograph of my makeup and hair compared to the professional makeup artist that one of the girls could afford, I realized I was on to something! I seemed to have an unrecognized talent (or so I have been told)! Most recently those similar words touched me as another makeup artist so kindly told me that I “have a gift” . I was really in awe over that!
When I came home from nationals that year, I longed to continue with doing makeup and hair. My co-workers asked me to bring my “kit” into work. After I made-over about 7 faces, and they saw the gleam and spark in my heart they encouraged me to start doing makeup as a business ! I launched Faces by Joy in August of 2010 and it has been a ride for sure and I am in lOVE! My mother started with me in January as my official hair artist. We both can do hair and I love that too! My main focus is Weddings! I love Weddings because I can work around the year doing makeup and hair! Girls can get a consult and book for Bridal portraits! My heart soars with them when we place the veil during a consult and when they cant stop looking in the mirror and their makeup it gives me a sense of Joy that I have had a hand in making someone feel so amazing about themselves.
What did you learn about yourself that surprised you?
That I seem to have a 6th sense about working with colors. It’s a strange thing, that I will meet someone to do makeup and my hands will drift off to colors I would have not initially chosen. I just follow my intuition as it leads and I am always amazed at the creation!
I am excited about my blog where I have started Bridal Beauty on a Budget! If you are a Bride to be, I would encourage visiting! www.facesbyjoy.com
